  • What great leaders have that good leaders don’t

Are there characteristic personal profiles or natural personality traits for great leaders? I wouldn’t think so. I believe great leaders are made not born. For me good leaders are inspiring, charming, magnetic, charismatic. But great leaders have a depth that only comes from within. They are genuine to themselves, transparent to the world, caring and honest, value the truth. Great leaders are in other words amazing human beings that arise in you only but positive feelings. With the right guidance in early years, during youth or later in life great leaders may be born. Coaching is a professional guidance into deepened self-understanding and understanding of others that enables opening up yourself to your potential and bringing down your mental blockers to a journey of development and wellbeing. Modern coaching methods include aspects of behavioral science, psychology and result-orientation to help you find the keys to your own development. Do you too wish to become a great leader?

  • Dare let go

Sometimes we hold on because we think it's dangerous to let go. From a wider perspective or with the aid of an outside view, we eventually realize that the best thing is to let go. It will not be so dangerous. In fact, this is exactly what we need to do to move on and develop. Out in the Swedish archipelago with our trimaran, I decided to go on a swim. The weather was warm and beautiful and it did not look like it was blowing out on the water. I swam for a long time and came a good distance from the boat. It felt great to just swim without a goal. Just enjoy swimming, the water and the beautiful landscape of the outer archipelago. After a while I turned to come back. Did not want to risk getting too tired out in the open water. Suddenly the wind turned. I was not mentally prepared for it even though I know the wind can turn at any time. It became counter-current and hard. It felt like I was not getting anywhere with my swimming. Instead of staying calm and continuing to enjoy the water, the sun and nature, I became anxious and in no time useless thoughts began to form in my head. I saw the boat far away, it felt like a huge distance to cover… It happens to all of us from time to time that we end up in situations both privately and at work where we lock ourselves in mentally. Being able to let go, see the situation in perspective and feel secure in uncertainty are leadership qualities that can be trained. ... after a while I realized what was happening. I focused so hard on the goal (getting back to the boat) that I stopped trusting my abilities and enjoying the trip that would take me there. When you as a leader instead of focusing hard on the goal and end up in mental images where the goal feels far away, almost unattainable, focus on doing what you are good at, trust your abilities and enjoy the path to the goal, you succeed in reaching your goals as a consequence, a result, of your actions. If you want to develop as a leader, there are different ways to go about it. The most important thing is to find a way that suits you. Get in touch to know how this trip might look like for you.

  • Time for reflection. Tips!

Summer time is finally here with warm, sunny weather and time off for many. It's once again a different summer. You can still make the best for you and those around you with the help of positive attitude and time for reflection. Depending on what you work with or rather how you work, you may not have time left to reflect during the year. Reflection is not difficult when you prioritize it and thus make it a habit. You can think of the following: What did you get from your last reflection time? What was good and why. With these questions, you get clarity on one of the most important motivating factors: why should you set aside time for reflection. To change a behavior, for example, start prioritizing something you usually have quite low on your list and consequently never have time to do, you need to be motivated. Therefore, first find your motivation. If reflection is yet not a habit in your life, you may start by setting aside a few minutes a few times a week in a place where you are undisturbed. For me, it's the proximity to the water. There I reflect at my best. Heard once from a customer that the best place to reflect was in front of a white wall. Try different places and see where you reflect best. What happens now? Should you just sit, lie down or stand there hoping for amazing inspiration? Have heard from customers who have a very hectic year and do not give themselves time to reflect that once they are free and have time, their heads are empty, they get nowhere. It can be frustrating of course. Try asking yourself these questions: What am I happy with today? What do I want more of tomorrow? In what ways did I show others gratitude or positive feelings? What gave me energy? What did I want to do today that I actually did? Brighter Leaders helps you lead yourself and lead others, bringing out your best sides, achieve a deeper level of reflection that gives you new insights and takes you further in your development. Happy summer!

  • Time for recovery

Here are some tips on how to recover your energy: Think of things that you like, choose one and give yourself time for it. Do not think about the future, but live in the present. Here comes a little exercise to get into the present, in your mind zone, not thinking about anything else and getting renewed energy. Count up to 100 and then count down with steps of 17, eg 100, 83, 66, etc. Do not think about what you have left to do, but instead think about everything you have done. Think positively in each scenario. Be kind to yourself and others. Be permissive in your thoughts. Think about what you have learned in the recent weeks. Think of yourself, go into yourself and pick out the energy that is already there. It will give you a longer lasting energizing feeling. Try something new. Don't take yourself seriously. Do something you are not good at and laugh at what goes wrong. For example play music quiz. Show gratitude. Good luck! Feel free to contact Brighter Leaders and comment on how it went.

  • How to improve your communication

We all communicate in different ways, some do so in a short and straight-forward way, others use many words for what could have been said in a few. Some people communicate with the aid of mental pictures, those who when you listen to you can actually "see" in your mind what they are describing. Others communicate by giving facts and technical details. You might find that some of your colleagues are more emotionally driven while others may seem emotionally unaffected. We all have different communication skills and strengths. We tend to more easily see skills and strengths in others when they are similar to our skills. Whilst other strengths and skills which we don't posses might be more difficult to identity. It is known that less than 10% of our communication is verbal (some sources say between 5% and 7%), approximately 20% is how we say things (the tone, the speed, the pauses) and the rest of our communication comes from our body. The more we understand our and other's ways of communicating the easier communicating becomes. There is so much said on communication. The best way of understanding yours and others' different communication styles is to work with it in a practical way.. Reading, going courses, watching videos will give you the theory. But practice you may only gain by doing yourself. Working with you communication will result in you spending less time understanding others and getting understood, and more time making things happen. You will increase your and other's energy levels and have a more cohesive team. Well-being and efficiency will also improve. Take a look at what Brighter Leaders can offer you.

  • 5 ways to be a more impactful leader

Your impact as a leader depends on you, on your ability to define your roll and grow and develop in it. Here comes five concrete aspects to consider: Goals: in some organisations the goals are very clear. If this is so for you your challenge might be to keep your team focused and motivated towards these goals. In more complex matrix organisations goals from different parties might sometimes even be contradictory. In this case it might be so that you and your team need to discuss and decide how to manage this contradictions so that the team doesn't spend energy on the wrong things and looses its energy and drive. Delegate: the best leader is the one whose team can work without. You delegate to your team members depending on interest areas and competencies. At the same time you create the best organizational conditions for your team to do its work. Be open, vulnerable: to show strength is in some business cultures a positive trait. To be open and show some of your vulnerability in a genuine way will get you longer with your team even in such cultures. We are all people before leaders. Flexibility and firmness: to be adaptive to situations and to individuals without loosing your values. The clearer you are with your team about your values the easier it will be to stand strong when tough decisions need to be taken so that they don't take you as rigid and inflexible but instead true and genuine. Self-evaluation and evaluation from your team: to step back , reflect and ask yourself some powerful questions such as "what am I proud of in my leadership?", "what would I like to improve?" will get you longer for each time. Asking feedback from your team about concrete situations will help you better understand them and yourself. Would you like to assess the impact of your leadership? Learn more here.

  • Learn why well-being should be your top priority

When you value your well-being, your energy increases, you get more done, become more creative, happier and can cope with adversity better. The benefits of feeling good are so many. There is hardly anyone who needs to be convinced of that. Still, many do not have well-being as their top priority. Why? There are explanations for this, but let us instead focus on what you can do to prioritize your own well-being, that of your team, colleagues' and those you spend time with off work. Yourself Here's how to prioritize your own well-being: Stay active. Your body needs both physical and mental stimulation. Keep in touch with positive people who increase your energy. Think about which people in your environment you should have more contact with and which ones you should have less contact with. Experience new things. It can be about learning something or doing something new. Find out which diet fits you best and make small successive changes in your diet. Normally, everyone can reduce their sugar and fat intake. Eat varied. Eat raw vegetables at every meal, and vary them. A thumb rule is that the vegetables you eat should have different colors (different colors= different vitamins and nutrients). Give your time and attention to others without expecting anything in return. Many people feel short of time, do not have time for what they have at hand. It is often a matter of prioritizing better. If you want, there is always time for the important things. (When there's a will, there's a way). It is proven that giving freely to others gives joy and increases well-being. The most important thing you can give is yourself. Ask yourself powerful questions every day. Some examples are: what am I happy with, what do I want more of in my life, what made me experience joy, what would I like to do differently tomorrow. Your team As your team members' well-being increases, they not only feel better but also perform better. The reason for prioritizing well-being is not that performance will increase, this is a consequence. Just like with your own well-being, there are countless benefits of helping your team members feel good. To prioritize your team's well-being: Make a special effort to tell your employees when they are doing well. You can do this especially in your next 1-2-1 meeting, but preferably as soon as you see them individually or in front of others. Get to know your staff and colleagues. What does everyone appreciate? A reward for one person is not necessarily seen as a reward for another. Try to reach the heart. It affects deeper than if you appeal to reason. Give yourself time as a leader for regular feedback and dialogue. Make sure your team has good work ethic and is in a good emotional state. Prioritize the interests and passion of each team member. Our motivation increases strongly when we do what we are passionate about. Consequently, we will be very good at it. It increases the feeling of satisfaction and meaning. Give your team members variety in their work. Inspire and support each team member so that he/ she achieves new goals, grows and develops. Include your team members in decision-making that affects them. Having a sense of control over one's own situation increases well-being. Take care of your employees and team members beyond their work. Show appreciation and care. Be a role model and make an impact. You as a leader will increase your well-being as a consequence of your team members feeling better. • The powerful question

It's about your inner leadership - achieving better self-insight, deepening what you know about yourself, understanding your behaviors and reactions to people and situations, to land in this stable, safe place where you feel at your best. When you succeed in being at this midpoint where your innate strengths are right at the top without having too much of them so that they tip over and become a burden, stop and give yourself time to take in all the impressions. This creates a strong memory in the brain so that the brain finds it easier to find its way back there and you make conscious, part of the unconscious processes, so that you can find your way to the your midpoint faster. Set aside 10-15 minutes when you can be undisturbed. Start by closing your eyes and finding your presence. Stabilize your breathing. Then write down (preferably on paper) all the dreams you have, everything you would like to achieve, everything you wish you had. Once you have done this, read through what you have written aloud for yourself and ask yourself "why would this make me happy?" For an in-depth process and for help finding your midpoint, where you are at the top without effort, you will need an external sounding board that can listen to you on a deeper level, hear what you are not saying and what you mean by what you are saying. and be able to ask the right questions to help you achieve better self-awareness, deepen what you know about yourself, understand your behaviors and reactions to people and situations, to land in this stable, safe place where you feel at your best.
