    Have you ever tried having one foot in the gas pedal while having the other on the brake? This is exactly what happens often with your brain. Your conscious brain desires something that your sub-conscious brain finds threatening. Being the primary function of your sub-conscious brain to keep you safe and work as effectively as possible, anything that challenges this status quo, any change will be at first be treated by your sub-conscious brain as a risk. So while your rational conscious brain wants to hit the gas pedal your sub-conscious brain will hit the brake. So how do you get past this? The first step is finding out if these two different networks in your brain are in coherence or dissonance.   • Your life is largely in autopilot

    It is why you keep getting the results you don't like over again. Understanding how our brain works makes it easier to get it out of autopilot. Newest neuro-science research shows that up to 97% of all our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are automated. You might wonder how this is so? The sub-conscious part of our brain is in charge of regulating all of our body's functions without us having to think about it at all. It's this great! Imagine the opposite scenario ... having to think before breathing, before starting to walk, before blinking, you get it! As amazing as our brain is to take care of all these for us while we are engaged in other stuff has its downside. It is now proven that the brains two most important functions is to: 1. keep us safe 2. spare energy This is why our brain automates as much as it can, even thoughts and feelings which will determine our actions. This is because we set our goals with our rational brain, also called Executive Network (accounts for only for 2-3% of our decisions) but we achieve them in our sub-conscious brain also called the Default Mode Network. The more our sub-conscious brain keeps us safe and saves energy the more it will automate thoughts, feelings and behaviors.   • How to overcome fear of failure

    During the years I've met many leaders that carry with them the weight of fearing to fail. What is failure really and does the fact that we fail turn us into a failure? Even though we might fear to fail others the first ones we fear to fail is ourselves. Realizing this is a big first step and is connected to the image we have of ourselves. The more we know about ourselves, the more we accept all our edges the less we will fear failing ourselves. When you as a leader come to that turning point you will no longer be afraid of failing others. This is a learning process in which we have experience and are happy to assist you. Failures and successes are feedback loops. By focusing on what they are telling you, on what you may learn from them you shift your focus to something productive.     How does the thought of being victorious instead of being the victim resonate with you? Your thoughts are the engine to your feelings and behaviors. Everything ripples out from your thoughts and create a positive or negative impact depending on your initial thoughts. One first step is therefore to be aware of your thoughts and inner dialogues without blame, shame, judgment or justification. Once you've identified them it is time to decide if these thoughts are empowering or disempowering you. Empowering thoughts you wish to reinforce. The question is: what do you wish to do with your disempowering thoughts? I understand your rational answer is take them away, not have them anymore but you see it is somewhat deeper than that. Because if all that was needed was the rational will then none of us would ever have disempowering thoughts.   • How to focus on what you can control

    At a conscious, rational level we know it takes us nowhere to focus on things we can not affect, like the pandemic, the climate change, the war in Ukraine, our manager's reaction or lack of action, our colleagues behavior, our company's decisions affecting us. Nevertheless we still put energy into these things and give them much more of our attention that would be needed. Choose today three things you are focusing on that you can not impact and make a decision to stop giving them your time and energy. For each one of these things find something you actually can impact and wish to give your attention to and then, do them! Hyper focus on why you can, shifting from "I should" to "why I must". What is the highest priority action I can do right now that will take me closer to my goal? Ask yourself this question everyday and right down the answer. Then focus on doing whatever you decided you would do and celebrate your victory for doing. it. In this way you activate your brain's motivational network which will release dopamin and reinforce the feeling of accomplishment. What happens when you don't do whatever you have committed with yourself to do? You see, when we tell ourselves we will do something and we don't we activate the self-sabotage system. The more we do this the more it becomes a habit. Braking the self-sabotage habit or any other bad habit will take time and lots of energy. So it's better if you are aware when you are activating it, so you don't.   • Release your limiting beliefs

    It’s not your fault because no one has shown you how to break free, shown you the science of how you change your brain so you change your environment and your results. Consciously: you desire a change Subconscious: your limiting beliefs hold you back Your life style will never go where your mind doesn’t live. Every single change in your life starts in your brain. There are a couple of things very important to consider: - your self talk - your expectation - managing your emotions - giving your brain what you want instead of telling it what you don’t want - believe what you want - move in a wave of certainty You need to sell it to yourself and believe it before you can sell it to others. You need to say yes to your conviction not just to what is convenient. Say yes to what It may cost to get there. Say a bold yes. Are you interested or committed? If you're interested you'll do what is convenient. If you're committed you'll do whatever it takes. One thing is knowing what to do another thing is doing it. Do you know exactly what is holding you back? When you’re congruent in thoughts, feelings, beliefs, behaviors and actions you start focusing on what you want to achieve and you see no more options that distract you. Don’t wait for success to come to you, go for success. The best plan in the world is worth little if you don’t press the start button. No one else can climb the success ladder for you Even if you have all the knowledge you need, all the right skillsets, if you don’t put them into action you’ll stay where you are.
